Some children experience difficulties with hand writing due to one or all of the following factors; poor postural stability, poor intrinsic hand function, poor attention to task, poor endurance with gross and/or fine motor activities, and poor visual perception and visual discrimination skills. Any and all of these factors can contribute to difficulties with handwriting. However, if addressed early, poor handwriting skills can easily be corrected with therapy, without further impact on the educational and social aspects of childhood.
Handwriting Without Tears is an easy and
comprehensive way to teach pre-printing, printing and cursive writing. It was developed by Jan Z. Olsen, OTC, an occupational therapist and handwriting specialist. Several schools throughout the state have adapted the Handwriting Without Tears program, including Fayette County Public Schools, making Handwriting Without Tears the most widely used program in the state.
Our therapists are occupational therapists with knowledge and training in child development, including gross and fine motor manipulation, hand-eye coordination and functional grasp patterns. We provide our patients with the most effective and efficient way of learning handwriting in a friendly, welcoming environment conducive to learning.
